Colophon Page
Web Standards
I have chosen to ensure that my site complies with the current web standards to provide all users on different browsers the same experience. These standard that I have chosen to follow are:
- XHTML 1.0 Traditional
- CSS 2.1
All pages meet the criteria for these standard and are validatable using the wschools validation service.
Usability
I have taken great care to ensure that the following things do not occur:
- Broken links
- Missing pictures
- Confusing navigation
- distracting images or bulky boring text
Broken Links
To ensure no broken links I went through and tried each one, to enable all my users to find and get to the directories that they are looking for.
Missing Pictures
All pages were visited and checked to ensure that pictures loaded and that the picture links were valid.
Confusing Navigation
Navigation bar was standardized and at the top of the content of every page the name of the current page posted. originally had drop-down menus but decided to get rid of them to avoid confusion and to accomodate those who have a hard time using them.
Distracting images or bulky boring text
To prevent distractions by pictures or long strings of text I have limited the amout of material posted on each page.
Designed for scanning
To optimize our tendency to scan rather than read web pages, I have created headers every time there is a change in topic or change in the focus of the content to allow users to identify the change and determine if they want to read that part.
